Hope unexpectedly comes in the form of Vikram, the cunning prince of a neighboring land and her sworn enemy kingdom. Unsatisfied with becoming a mere puppet king, Vikram offers Gauri a chance to win back her kingdom in exchange for her battle prowess. Together, they"ll have to set aside their differences and team up to win the Tournament of Wishes, a competition held in a mythical city where the Lord of Wealth promises a wish to the victor. Reaching the tournament is just the beginning. Once they arrive, danger takes on new shapes: poisonous courtesans and mischievous story birds, a feast of fears and twisted fairy revels. Every which way they turn new trials will test their wit and strength. But what Gauri and Vikram will soon discover is that there"s nothing more dangerous than what they most desire.

Number of pages: Number of times read (including the time before this review): 1 Rating (out of five stars): 5 “Magic should consider being less pretentious” (A Crown of Wishes) I loved A Crown of Wishes. If you are a fan of The Star-Touched Queen, I highly recommend picking up A Crown of Wishes.. A Crown of Wishes. In January, we listed 12 science fiction and fantasy books that we were keeping an eye on for the year. We bring this up because Roshani Chokshi’s followup to The Star-Touched Queen made it onto the list. It’s not a true sequel, though; A Crown of Wishes instead follows Gauri, sister to Maya, as she participates in the Tournament of Wishes with Vikram.

Welp, A Crown of Wishes resolved that issue, and in the end, I straight-up loved it. The book both wrapped up nicely, yet still left me wanting more. Much, much more. Soap opera, style, maybe, because reality TV has nothing on Gauri and Vikram, okay? I would watch the crap out of that. A Crown of Wishes. Gauri, the princess of Bharata, has been taken as a prisoner of war by her kingdom’s enemies. Faced with a future of exile and scorn, Gauri has nothing left to lose. At its core, A Crown of Wishes is a story about the power of stories. In writing it, I found joy and, honestly, peace. That the story itself was inspiration and reason enough to finish. A Crown of Wishes is a lyrical feast for the senses that only partially delivers on the promise of an intriguing premise.

The tale is well worth reading but I don’t think it will make many keeper shelves. It’s definitely a well written story but small weaknesses keep the book from achieving the excellence of which I am sure this author is.

The Crown of Wishes was a hard one to review because I loved it so much. With a magical setting based off Indian mythology, an antagonistic romance at it’s heart with two fierce characters, and a magical Tournament of Wishes filled with dangerous trials, A Crown of Wishes is one of my favourite books of   A Crown of Wishes is filled to the brim with details.

From the little ones – like a wish for a garden full of swords – to the big ones, in which mythology and history are basically shaped by storytelling (which is a huge thing in the story), most of the details enhance the story. Hope unexpectedly comes in. A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi. The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi won my best debut of when I first started doing Calendar Girls this year (check out the epic update here and seriously come join us) for a very good reason – it had interesting characters, a fascinating storyline, and beautiful, beautiful prose.

Chokshi’s prose is full of. A Crown of Wishes is even better than the first book in my opinion. The plot didn’t seem to sneak up on you at the end, instead it was obvious from the start what Gauri and Vikram were moving towards.
